Interesting Facts

History of the tie?
There are several different versions of the origins of the tie. Some say the Roman orators wore ties to keep their vocal cords warm. Others say the French Monarch Louis XIV was captivated by the bright scarves that Croatian troops wore around their necks. The king, who was always in fashion, created a regiment of Royal Cravattes (this is the origin of the word cravat). But the tie, as we know it, began in the Edwardian era when men started it regularly. In the 20th century the tailors produced durable ties, to the constant tying and untying of knots.

Where does the word blazer come from?
Some people say that the blazer originated in the Victorian era. Because of a ceremony with Queen Victoria, a captain of a ship transformed the inelegant uniforms of his crew into sport jackets. The Queen was so impressed by the jackets that named them in honor of the ship, the HMS Blazer.
